Ideal Woman Looks You Say? Que Horror!

It’s such a no-brainer that women by nature are inclined into making themselves beautiful irregardless of personal motives, style, race, and culture. It’s called thriving to mark their existence in this ever scrutinizing society and in their quest to gain favorable attention particularly from the opposites, that, if they’re straight.

I am a woman and so I knew.  This applies on some men too!

Cosmetics that comes in almost all imaginable forms is the easiest option one would take to achieve that coveted look, to be beautiful.  Salons specializing on make ups and hairdo’s, cosmetic surgery and dentistry, wellness spas and gyms, clothing lines and couturiers, shoes and bag brands, etcetera, they’re all making good money these days courtesy of us women sacrificing ourselves for the sake of the so-called beauty.

It may take a lot of arduous work and it could cost a lot of fortune to achieve one’s goal of beautifying oneself.  It could go from painless to the painful extreme, to the extent of taking out a rib or cutting a toe. But somehow some women can never be contented.  We own the mirror almost and sometimes curse at the reflection for being ugly or lacking and then we often got to spot something that calls for work. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is it not?

Lucky are those that are blessed with natural beauty who could go sans make up everyday but still would look beautiful no matter their age, their complexion, their outfit.  I personally don’t favor makeups but it has given some women the channel to express themselves and feel good as well. Who wouldn’t? It’s a dilemma for some though who’s got little time in their hands and still has to spend those precious ticks doing cover ups in almost every waking day. It’s a unanimous wish that somehow we could just trot to and fro, never ever worrying about our looks and won’t ever be bothered by bad hair days and the likes.

Now, can anything be more ridiculous than one popular cosmetics company answering to the call for beauty? The “ideal woman look” masks made of rubber to replace everyday make up routines? That’s just ridiculous! It scared the hell out of me seeing those masks as if it were from a horror movie!

~

What gives? Imagine all women wearing those masks. There are endless possibilities of them using the thing to rob a bank or spark terrorism and most of all, terrifying the gut out of you when you meet the same painted face in every turn you take and worse, when there’s a crack already between reality and your sanity. Goodness gracious!

You call this stylish and most advanced? It’s even far from making one instantly pretty! Could there be any worse invention than this?  Now, burn all those make-ups and yeah, all hail this stupid painted face mask, if you dare!

But You Don’t Look Your Age!

“For real? But you don’t look like it!,” I burst out for a second unbelieving what I just heard. “How time flies,” I thought to myself.

I can’t help but feel so amused at the recollection of an exchange that has transpired just a little recently between my colleagues at work, pertaining our ages!  We have been so busy with our own lives that rare conversations as this is worth a happy memory.

Everyone was so eager, looking forward for that certain event which would mark a huge history for the network I was currently identified with and our future endeavors as well. As we’re nearing a new chapter of our lives hopefully months from now, talks about how we wish to spend the rest of our career surfaced.

“You still have a long way to go, you’re still young and capable. This might be the final stretch for us veterans in this industry,”  my manager of late fifties blurted in the middle of the meet.  And so it went on and the convo diverted to the length of service each has rendered to the company and our ages as another segue!

I was surprised when I heard my two girlfriends claimed, they’ve been with the company for about fifteen years and counting.  “Yes, we’re already in our late thirties, Miss, Julie and I!” my friend Ann confirmed.  “Miss Jane is in her mid-thirties and you’re the youngest among us all.”

Info overload! It felt like my brain has been frozen for years and breaking free at that instant.  I looked at both girls and made an estimation, they hardly aged! Ann has still that supple and unwrinkled face and the vigor that of a twenty year old, though complaining about frequent memory gaps; and Julie is the epitome of sexiness as she’s still oozing with charm and curves and in spite being a mother of two. Jane, is still the same carefree gal and an otaku like myself as she was years earlier. They’re all aging gracefully, I must say.

How about me? My, I’ve realized I’ve forgotten counting my own years and I can’t believe I’ve reached this far.  Another thing that struck me was that I have spent almost half my entire life knowing only this career and that’s more than a decade! I felt sentimental all of a sudden, feeling thankful and blessed, this being my first and only job since I got out of college.

Is there anything I’ve left out?  I hate describing myself, duh! In the dojo, a couple of years back, they’ve mistaken me for a seventeen year old; in the international forums they thought I was nineteen and now, I don’t really care about what other people think.  I don’t fear aging, and I vow to enjoy what life has to offer as it gets me older.

Everything will eventually be lost in time, beauty included but it’s not really that bad to keep ourselves in the best shape as possible. For in the long run, it should be as the saying goes: Beauty cannot be seen nor touched but can only be felt in the heart, sort of like that.

Cranking Up This Place Once More!

How long has it been? Three years? Four years? Either way, it’s awfully that long since I’ve set my foot in here and I really am pumped up to tear this place up again!

It’s definitely a different thing when you get a hold of the things you are passionate about once more. Blogging has once been my life for a couple of years and I just can’t wait to get started. The raves, the rants, the whatsits and whatnots, my I’ve missed those! The overwhelming adrenaline rush and the overloading of ideas waiting to be documented here make me all excited like a newbie in this field.

Needless to say more and speaking like I’ve got all the time in my hands, let the revving up of this space begin! Just fixing a few glitches here and there and we’re down to business. Hell yeah, there’s no stopping me — ready, set, one, two, three, yay me!!

X-Men the Anime

It was right after that devastating tsunami in Japan that the X-Men Anime debuted on television, April 1st.  This is the third installment from the much anticipated Marvel and Madhouse collaboration, the four serials namely, Iron Man, Wolverine, X-men and soon Blade.  I have watched a couple of episodes from the first two mini-series but was really disappointed with Wolverine in particular.  There had been nothing in resemblance to the uncanny Wolverine we always admired and wanted to see in action.

Putting the disappointment aside, finally here comes X-Men the Anime. I was so psyched after seeing the trailer as it looked like a promising adaptation of the famous American produced animation. There had been a few differences aesthetically, well, I may say “huge” since it’s anime but it remained loyal to the series I personally have been following since I was very young. Ureshii desu!!  The designers from Madhouse did a really good job at this one; sticking true to the original and of course not losing the elements of what the world came to embrace as Japanese animation or simply called “anime”.

I still am a fan of the western animation though but I’m mostly impressed with its anime counterpart. At a glance one could already tell which is which including the low-cost anime projects that I’ve seen.  Anime just keeps on getting better! Well, let me talk about the differences next time. What I really wanted to say is that, I feel nostalgic with the X-Men currently airing. It has been a dream come true for me to see then made into an anime! Leave it to the praiseworthy Madhouse; why of course, they made most of my CLAMP famous written animes such as Cardcaptor Sakura, Kobato and much more. Saikou!

Would you agree with me that aesthetic differences aside, this adaptation has more substance story-wise than the original? It has more depth than just seeing incomprehensible combat action all the time.

I may as well write about it, now if I can just spare a little of my time.

Snake Fruit it is!

Astounded by the creepy and prickly feeling  on my hand, I let out a low shriek at something my friend handed me when I wasn’t looking!  It was a Sunday and we’re off to witness a martial  arts  demo at the same school we’re both attending.  “What the hell was that?”  An obvious reaction, yes.

Salak by Matt Molloy

A friend of his gave him a strange looking fruit that’s brownish red in color and it’s kinda hairy and spiky at the same time. It’s a bit hard, elongated and it’s just a size bigger than my thumb. I really thought it was sort of a prank since I’ve never seen the likes of it around my country but he was told it was brought in from Thailand and was also said to bring good luck. I doubt the latter though but maybe.

I was really intrigued by this strange fruit which I can’t get the name of, not even from the person who gave it. I finally sat down a couple of minutes ago and searched over the internet about it and voila, it has been found! No wonder it’s covering resembles like that of the snake’s since it really is a “snake fruit” and it’s real name is Salak.

Surprisingly, in spite of its tough covering, opening it was such a cinch. It smelled like tamarind at first and it’s a sour one indeed. I’ve read that the fruit is one of the favorites and is usually something that’s being brought in as a take home gift, I wonder why.  Honestly, I vowed not to open it but I have to taste it for myself in order to write this post. I may need to eat a cluster to truly appreciate it and maybe then I may change my impression.

On Gaga’s Newest Scheiße!

A pinch of some 80’s heavy rock and retro pop-dance tune, a mixture of some goth-like and metal synth banging with club beats, some elements of spoken foreign verses and of course Lady Gaga’s signature vocals are some things to be expected in her newest album dubbed “Born This Way” to be released a bit later tonight.

FarmVille users sure are lucky enough to have a listen to the whole album fist-hand.  Count me in, I suppose.  Who would have thought getting back to farming would bring some life to the usual boring stuff.  Kidding, I love FV the same! GagaVille, yeah!   Enough of that though.

I’m not much of a Lady Gaga’s fan nor her music is one of my kind but admittedly her album “Fame” in 2008 had me tapping my heels along with it.  The collaborations are so good and same is true with this album which I heard was inspired of some big icons in the music industry, probably just in a different light.

Listening to the tracks, I’ve recognized some of her pre-released singles, and of course the carrier, “Born this Way”.  It’s also a  little bit overwhelming to hear a Latin-sounding track “Americano”, obviously since it has spoken Spanish and English at the same time, which reminded me of the basic paso-doble and flamenco dances we did in high school.

Here comes ” scheiße” or  scheisse, I thought I heard it wrong but it came to me that Gaga’s actually articulating a German term for the vulgar word meaning sh*t or f*ck! Incidentally, it’s one of the few terms I knew of the language and I was right.

Among all the tracks in the album, I prefer the ballady type “You and I” which I later knew it really did contain some elements of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” as I’ve read in wiki; no wonder the familiarity. The rest of the tracks are not that appealing to me though.

Summing up, the album gives off a feeling of chaos or just a tinge of it.  I can’t rate it with flying colors in comparison to “The Fame.” I was expecting a stunner from her or anything that would overshadow her past works but I was left hanging.  This isn’t her best album I could tell and everyone is entitled to their own opinion anyways.  Just sayin’.

Agnes’s The Unicorn Song

Critics A.O. Scott of the New York Times and Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle mouthed the exact observations I’ve had upon seeing this film for the first time.  You may be able to read some good reviews for the movie as well as some intense critical estimations (theirs) for the movie at Wiki.

I feared would be disappointed all throughout the duration of the film since its a bit uneventful and there’s nothing really to spark one’s interest.  Except one —  the cute and fluffy Agnes!

Among the three girls, she’s the gentler one, the most innocent, so sweet I could actually bite her!  Come to think of it, it wasn’t Gru’s line that has become the most quoted line from which the movie became popular but it’s her’s.  “It’s so fluffy, I’m gonna die~!”

I’m not about to elaborate further but Agnes is the embodiment of fluffiness and cuteness!  She would be the main reason I would want to sit down and watch another rerun!  Well, we both have something in common, our names (she got one of mine!) and our fondness for unicorns! Now you know! Lolz!!

Unicorns, I love them, Uni-uni-unicorns, I lo-lo-love them..~!!
